General Responsibilities

The Tax Manager oversees the company's tax compliance, consulting, and planning. The principal responsibilities are to develop and recommend tax strategies to optimize tax structure, preparation and timely filing of tax returns with the corresponding governmental agencies, quarterly tax provisions and analysis, including, as applicable, evaluation of accounting transactions to determine tax impact (ASC 740), review and assessment of the tax disclosures to be included as part of the 10Q and 10K Filings with the SEC. Ensures execution of all key controls, including but not limited to SOX controls, as per assigned roles within established procedures and within approved delegation of authority and authorized limits. Responds to and review all escalations or deviations that may be brought to their attention. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Responsible for overseeing and/or reviewing the quarterly tax provisions for EVERTEC, Inc., and subsidiaries, including Puerto Rico and LATAM, and the corresponding journal entries. • During the year, oversees and/or reviews the effective tax rate for each entity based on the budget and updated forecast results as required by the ASC 740. • Oversees and/or reviews the process of preparing the income, personal property, municipal volume of business, and annual reports for PRIDCO and the Department of State annual returns. • Develops, presents and leads the implementation of tax strategies to enhance and optimize the organization's tax structure, across all jurisdictions. • Oversees and/or reviews tax impacts from Intercompany Transactions, including leading the Transfer Pricing Reports Requirements across all jurisdictions. • Reviews the 10Q (quarterly report) and 10K (annual audited report) Income tax-related disclosures. • Oversees and approves the bi-weekly payroll tax deposit process. Oversight of the quarterly payroll tax returns with the corresponding governmental agencies. • Oversees and assesses the determination of the expected income tax expense and stock compensation expense for the budget. • Oversees and approves the monthly preparation and payment of the Sales and Use (IVU) tax returns and responds to any consultation related to IVU matters. • Ensures compliance with Tax Exemption Decree requirements and filings. • Oversees and approves the USVI monthly tax accrual and journal entries. Ascertain that the team gathers, analyses, and prepares all the backup documentation and information necessary to complete the U.S. Virgin Islands corporate annual income tax return and oversee and review the gross receipts monthly return with the USVI government. • Develops, monitors and updates policies and procedures for the tax area. Such policies include a schedule detailing all required filing due dates. • Ensures that staff/group supervises and executes all key financial controls as per assigned roles within established procedures and the approved delegation of authority and authorized limits. Respond to and review all escalations or deviations that may be brought to their attention and report any exceptions to established internal controls. 

 

Performs duties through methods and actions that are consistently ethical and in total compliance with the laws, applicable regulations, Code of Ethics, corporate policies and guidelines and rules of conduct. Completes corporate trainings and certifications intended for the detection and prevention of money laundering related activities and fraud, insider training and conflict of interest policies and procedures, as applicable.

 

Education and Experience Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from a four (4) year college or university. • Must possess six (6) to ten (10) years of progressive experience in tax planning, tax accounting, tax reporting, and tax return preparation. • Knowledge of applicable tax laws to the commonwealth of Puerto Rico and for U.S. territories in which Evertec conducts business. • Knowledge of SOX Internal Controls. • A CPA License is preferred for this position. • International tax knowledge is a plus. 

 

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Tax Law and Compliance Knowledge: An in-depth understanding of local, state, and federal tax laws is essential. The ideal candidate must stay current with tax regulations and tax code changes and be able to interpret and apply complex tax laws to ensure compliance while minimizing tax liabilities. • Strategic Tax Planning: The candidate should be able to develop and implement effective tax strategies aligned with the overall business goals. The candidate must also be highly proficient in identifying opportunities for tax savings, optimizing structures, and managing risks associated with tax planning. • Financial Acumen: Strong financial analysis skills. Must be able to analyze financial statements, understand the impact of tax decisions on overall business performance, and communicate financial information effectively to financial and non-financial stakeholders. • Communication and Leadership Skills: Effective communication to convey complex tax concepts to stakeholders, including executives, clients, and regulatory authorities. Strong leadership skills for managing a tax team, setting priorities, and ensuring the team's success. • Technology and Data Analysis: Proficiency in relevant tax software and understanding of data analytics, including leveraging technology for efficient data management, analysis, and reporting, which can enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of tax-related processes. • Bilingual: Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English. #LI-DNI

Monday to Friday from 9:00AM to 6:00PM 

Available to work extended hours, weekends and/or holidays as needed and the availability to travel as required supporting projects in the region.
